If you’ve always wanted to visit Turkey but want to have a holiday of contrasts, then this country is the perfect destination.
Antalya is popular with all ages
Not all members of a family like doing the same activities, irrespective of their ages, and if you go on one of the Thomas Cook Turkey holidays to Antalya, you’ll find yourself in a region that is surrounded by the very old but caters for the young at heart.
Things to do in Antalya
You’ll be able to relax on long sandy beaches, the city is in the southwest of Turkey, so the summer heat lasts a little longer than in the north of the country. Or you can wander around and marvel at the splendours of the Ottoman old town and admire its 18th century houses.
If you enjoy sports you can always develop your golf or learn a new activity. Why not go paragliding over the Mediterranean?
Istanbul: the capital of the sultans
If lounging around on a beach is not your idea of heaven, then head off to Istanbul for a holiday of a different type. You can always invest in some handcrafted silver or leather bags or you might even be tempted to buy a carpet at the Grand Bazaar.
If retail therapy isn’t your primary interest then take a tour around the majestic Dolmabahce Palace. This palace is as famous for its gardens as well as its proximity to the Bosphorous Strait.
It was the final home for the administration of the Ottoman Empire and though it was only constructed in the late 19ty century, it’s still well worth a visit.
Turkey: the home of the hamam
The traditional Turkish bath, or hamam, is still very popular in modern Turkey and any visitor to the country should take one of these invigorating treats. This is no laid back western spa, you will be scrubbed, pummelled, steamed and cleansed but this wonderful experience will make you feel fantastic.
After the whole process, you can then enjoy a relaxing massage that will put you in the right frame of mind to enjoy some refreshing black tea and possibly some Turkish delights.
Book your return trip to Turkey
Once your break is coming to an end, you’ll soon realise how much of this huge country is still waiting to be explored. The ruins of the city of Troy, the delights of Bodrum the library at Ephesus, and the wonderful cuisine and the local people are just a few of the reasons for a return visit.
