Golf in Turkey
Coming from St Albans, the birthplace of Samuel Ryder, I have always been an avid watcher of golf’s Ryder Cup and like many golf fans I rank the 2012 competition at Medinah amongst the greatest ever. So it was especially nice to see Nicolas Colsaerts a then rookie star from Belgium, who bought the mighty Tiger Woods to his knees, returning to form after 5 years, to lead the field (however briefly) in the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya this week.
The conditions looked perfect for a great round of competitive golf and Calaerts rose to the occasion and I sure that he will want to play in Turkey every competition if this is the standard that he can achieve here!

But you don’t have to be a golf pro to rank the growing number of excellent golf courses, that dot Turkey’s Mediterranean landscape, in your “must play” list.
The region’s golfing history does not rank alongside other European centres, like Portugal’s Algarve or Catalonia. but what it lack in history it certainly makes up for in enthusiasm! It was Turkey’s Tourism Ministry that identified Belek, just east of Antalya as the perfect spot to develop to rival its more established competitors and iIt is only 23 years since the first course, “The National” opened in the area. Since then the area has blossomed and it is quickly becoming the perfect destination for luxury golfing holidays to Turkey.
