Travel means so many things to so many people. To some it is the red-eye flight to Dusseldorf for the regular meeting with the head of European sales. To others, travel is to visit mum and her new Greek boyfriend now living and working on an island in the Mediterranean!
But, for one South African guy, currently in Europe, travel is being blindfolded by a bunch of clowns, pushed out of a plane from several thousand feet above Poland and told to cycle on a tandem to Berlin!
It’s amazing what some people will do for a beer. Yes this new lifestyle/travel/advertising venture is courtesy of Heineken.
If, when you are not travelling, you are “in marketing” you will have heard of the new buzz word “disruption”. The idea is that good marketing is about disrupting peoples’ lives. So with this in mind, Heineken have disrupted the lives of 6 young men, with the promise of disrupting yours if you want to join in the fun, by blind folding them, taking them to a foreign country and setting them a series of challanges.
Great fun, but hang on! Weren’t we just talking about the importance of planning when it came down to travelling? Isn’t all this gung-ho, what the heck, just let it happen attitude exactly what travelling should not be?
Well yes, for some people, but I guess for all the young dudes out there who are at this very moment NOT reading what I am saying but already tucking into the videos above, it does kind of say: hey do it now, because if you don’t do it now, the next time you do want to visit somewhere you will have a wife and kids to look after and responsibilities and a plane to catch back home so that you can get into work on time…
